Installation Prep

Getting posters on the street isn’t just about printing them right, it’s about installing them fast, clean, and in the right places. Whether you’re doing it yourself or working with our street teams, here’s how to prep for a smooth install.

What You’ll Need

  • Posters, ideally shrinkwrapped in bundles by size or location
  • Wheatpaste glue or adhesive alternative
  • Stiff-bristle brushes or rollers
  • Buckets, gloves, and drop cloths
  • Water source for cleanup
  • Flashlight or headlamp for night installs

Wall and Surface Prep

Best Surfaces

Wheatpaste works best on raw surfaces like brick, concrete, unfinished wood, or plywood. These materials absorb the paste and let the paper bond naturally.

Surfaces to Avoid

Avoid glossy, painted, or metal surfaces unless you’re using a strong commercial adhesive. Posters will not adhere well and may peel or fall within hours.

Weather Conditions

For a proper bond, install in dry weather. Avoid heavy wind, rain, or freezing temperatures. Posters need a few hours to cure fully, especially if using heavier paper or rough surfaces.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Prep the Wall

Apply paste to the wall area using a wide brush or roller. Cover slightly more than the size of your poster.

2. Place the Poster

Align the poster and press it into the wall starting from the center. Smooth out with your hands or roller, pushing air bubbles outward.

3. Seal the Edges

Brush a thin coat of paste on top, especially around the edges, to keep everything locked in place and prevent peeling.

Field Tips

  • Bring backups, some installs fail due to surface or weather
  • Scout routes in advance and avoid private property
  • Work in pairs to move faster and stay discreet if needed
  • Respect local laws if posting commercially or for a brand
